Privacy Policy

Last updated:20/08/2026‍ ‍

Nic's Knacks ("we", "us", "our") respects your privacy and is committed to handling your personal information openly and fairly. This policy explains what we collect, why, and how we look after it — whether you're booking a face painter, buying a piece of pottery, or just saying hello through our enquiry form. ‍

As a small Australian sole trader business, we aren't formally bound by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), but we choose to handle your information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) as best practice.‍ ‍

1. What We Collect

Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect:

  • Contact details — name, email, phone number, postal/shipping address

  • Booking details — event date, location, age range of guests, service selected, special requests

  • Health and allergy information — if you tell us about allergies or skin sensitivities when booking face painting, this is treated as sensitive information under Australian privacy best practice. We only collect it with your consent, and only use it to plan your booking safely.

  • Payment information — processed securely through Square (in-person) or Squarespace Payments (online); we don't see or store full card details

  • Order details — items purchased, shipping address, order history

  • Enquiry form details — whatever you tell us, including which service you're enquiring about

  • Photos — images taken at events or of pottery pieces, where relevant (see Section 6)

  • Website usage data — collected automatically via Squarespace or Google analytics (e.g. pages visited, general location, device type)‍ ‍

We only collect what we genuinely need to run the business and serve you well. Where we collect sensitive information (such as health or allergy details), we only do so with your consent, and only for the purpose of providing your booking safely.

‍

2. How We Collect It‍ ‍

  • Directly from you — via our enquiry form, email, phone, or in person at markets/events

  • Automatically — through our Squarespace website and Google Analytics (cookies and analytics)

  • Through payment processors — Square and Squarespace Payments, when you make a purchase or pay a deposit

‍ ‍‍ ‍

3. Why We Collect It‍ ‍

We use your information to:

  • Respond to enquiries and confirm bookings

  • Process orders, payments, and deposits

  • Arrange shipping via Australia Post

  • Communicate with you about your booking or order (reminders, updates, changes)

  • Improve our services and website

  • Send occasional marketing or promotional content — only with your consent, and you can opt out any time

We don't use your information for anything beyond what's needed to run Nic's Knacks properly.

‍ ‍

4. Who We Share It With‍ ‍

We don't sell or rent your personal information. We only share it with the third parties needed to deliver our services:‍

  • Squarespace — website hosting, online store, and Squarespace Payments for online transactions

  • Square — point-of-sale payments at markets and in-person events

  • Australia Post — for calculating shipping and delivering orders

  • Google Analytics — website traffic and usage data, to help us understand how visitors use our site (this data is anonymised/aggregated and not used to identify you personally)‍ ‍

These providers have their own privacy and security practices, and only receive the information necessary for their function (e.g. Australia Post only receives your shipping address, not your booking notes).

‍ ‍

We won't share your information with anyone else unless required by law.

‍ ‍

5. Data Storage & Security‍ ‍

Your information is stored securely through our service providers' systems (Squarespace, Square) rather than on personal devices where avoidable. We take reasonable steps to protect your information from misuse, loss, or unauthorised access.‍ ‍

No online system is 100% secure, but we do our best to keep things locked down. Financial and transaction records are retained for at least five years, in line with ATO (Australian Taxation Office) record-keeping requirements.

‍

6. Photos & Images

Face painting is a visual, joyful thing — and sometimes that means photos! Here's how we handle them:‍ ‍

  • We may take photos at events or markets for use in our gallery, social media, or marketing

  • At private bookings (like birthday parties), we always check with a parent or guardian before photographing children. At public community events, general crowd or activity shots may be covered by the event organiser's own consent process rather than ours — see our Photo and Image Consent Policy for full details.

  • If you'd rather not be photographed, or would like a photo removed from our gallery or socials, just let us know — no hard feelings, no questions asked

  • Pottery product photos don't involve personal information and are used freely for our shop and marketing

‍

7. Cookies‍ ‍

Our website (via Squarespace) uses cookies to understand how visitors use the site and to improve your browsing experience. You can adjust your browser settings to limit or block cookies, though some site features may not work as smoothly as a result.

‍ ‍ ‍

8. Your Rights‍ ‍

You can ask us at any time to:‍ ‍

  • Access the personal information we hold about you

  • Correct any information that's inaccurate or out of date

  • Delete your information, where reasonably possible

  • Opt out of marketing communications

    ‍ ‍

Just reach out using the contact details below — we'll sort it out promptly.‍ ‍

‍ ‍

9. Marketing‍ ‍

If you've opted in to hear from us, we may send occasional updates about new pottery pieces, market dates, or seasonal face painting availability. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in our emails, or by contacting us directly.

‍ ‍

10. Complaints‍ ‍

If you have a concern about how we've handled your personal information, please contact us first — we're a small, personal business and want the chance to make it right.‍ ‍

If you're not satisfied with our response, you can lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC): www.oaic.gov.au

‍ ‍ ‍

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time as our business grows or as best practice evolves. The "Last updated" date at the top will always reflect the most current version.
